Commemorating St. Colmcille

Starting in December 2020, there will be a year-long commemoration marking the birth 1500 years ago of the 6th-century saint Colmcille or Columba. The saint and his rich legacy have shaped the language, culture and history of Ireland, Scotland and the north of England. The legacy continues to transcend borders and to inspire cooperation, not least in the Gaelic traditions of Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

The 7th of December is the traditional birthday of Colmcille and the year-long celebrations will last from the 7th December 2020 to the 7th December 2021. The friendships and partnerships developed over the year will, hopefully, continue to grow as a positive legacy of this celebration. Read more

My Dearest Lord,
Be thou a bright flame before me,
Be thou a guiding star above me,
Be thou a smooth path below me,
Be thou a kindly shepherd behind me,
Today and forevermore.
