School Improvement Group:
- The School Improvement Group (SIG) is a group of senior officials drawn from various sections of the Department and the Inspectorate. Its primary function is to engage directly with a small number of schools that are experiencing significant difficulties in specific aspects of their work which impact on teaching and learning in the school.
- The SIG team in the Department review individual cases which typically become known through the inspection process, and a collaborative approach is taken to determine an appropriate course of action. The SIG operates in a discreet and confidential manner with schools.
- The Department has now issued an information note on the SIG process and this is available here
