‘Opening a Special Education Class in 2025: Responding to opportunities and challenges’

The JMB will host a professional learning event tailored specifically for schools planning to open a special class in September 2025. School leaders and teachers who will play a central role in the established of new special classes are invited to attend this event.  A maximum of three participants per school will be accommodated.

Programme

Ann Marie Brosnan, Deputy President, JMB and Principal in Sacred Heart Secondary School, Clonakilty, together with her team, will present their context and experience in establishing special classes and developing their curriculum and supports, over the past three years.

Break

11:45am            NCSE Support

Personnel from the NCSE will provide details of the compendium of supports offered by NCSE.  Advice on good practice will be provided and there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions. 

Lunch

2.00pm               JMB Building Advisory Team

Noel Merrick and his team will outline the supports available to schools opening a new special class.  The team will offer advice and guidance on building related matters including the repurposing of existing accommodation.
